-> MacBookPro 8,1 (late 2011, 13-inch), intel chip Sandy Bridge -> Existing native OS: HighSierra 10.13.6 -> broken backlight, I use it with external monitor and use the flashlight trick for BIOS -> OCLP 2.2.0
Hi community, it turned out that I know just enough about operating systems to get myself in trouble, but not enough to get myself out of it. Here's what I did:
Downloaded OCLP to my mac
Downloaded Ventura image and followed instructions to create bootable disk using an external hdd I had around. however on boot menu this did not appear. Retried the process Success fully with a 32fb flash drive.
On reboot with boot menu I saw three entries: HighSierra HD EFI (generic orange volume icon) EFI (OCLP icon with small orange volume icon superimposed)
I clicked the first EFI one and this went to white screen with 🚫 symbol.
I rebooted and chose the third option with OCLP icon.
Lots of text acrolled across the acreen and then it went black. The text disappears pretty quickly but I can see that it ends on "End randomseed".
I can no longer boot to HighSierra HD. Because I can't get back in, I can't read detailed kernel or oclp logs.
I can get boot menu, but not recovery partition (either locally or via network).
I erased my HighSierra bootable usb previously and forgot to make a new one, in my excitement to finally get the Ventura USB working 🤦
Next I got on my windows laptop and started trying to create a HighSierra USB to recover my mac. I gave up after kexts as I felt extremely out of my depth. Now I have asked a friend with a modern Mac to download OCLP and prepare a HighSierra USB for me.
So my question is, am I headed in the right direction to repair my mac?
And second, is there an obvious reason why this failed? After reading through the kernel kexts and drivers walk-through, I got the idea that maybe something isn't supported. But doesn't OCLP desktop app take care of all that? do I still need to manually mess with the config files on the EFI?
Thanks in advance!
