Is it as simple as clicking the button to update from Ventura, or are there other steps required as it was installed via OCLP.

Is it as simple as clicking the button to update from Ventura, or are there other steps required as it was installed via OCLP.

Sorry for the incompetence in advance, but I can't seem to find an answer on the OCLP website, and you people are a lot more knowledgeable than I am.

I recently (a day ago) installed Ventura 13.7.5 on my 2013 MB Pro, it runs great and has given me the ability to run a ton of stuff I couldn't on Catalina.

However; I use an older DMG of garageband (10.7) for music production. Today it wouldn't open, neither would v10.2, so I'm a little stuck.

The newest version needs MacOS 14.4 to work, meaning I'd have to update. Which is fine, I'm sure it'll run ok, but I was just wondering if it was as simple as a native update, or if there were other things I had to do. I don't have the option to go back to Catalina to then update all the way to 14 or 15 as I only have a 16GB USB Drive.

Sorry again for bothering people, and I appreciate any help or insight. Thanks :)

Need to clarify model number, and investigate possible issues updating a mid 2014 15" Retina MBP to Monterey

Hi all.

As the subject suggests, I have a mid2014 15" Retina MBP that I'm thinking about pushing to Monterey, and I wonder if anyone has successfully done this. The reason for this is that updates to software I use are only supporting macOS 12 now. I work in music production, so it's (fairly) important to stay up-to-date with these things. That being said, it's obviously critical that there are no possible issues with CoreAudio or with the Thunderbolt functionality.

Importantly, does installing this update require reinstalling the whole machine, or would it install "over" the current OS?

I notice on the OpenCore github site that it lists the mid-2014 15" Retina MBP as model 11,3. However my model number is 11,2. I have confirmed that my model is indeed mid-2014 by running the serial number. Apple's website lists BOTH these model numbers for the late-2013 and mid-2014 15". Not sure then which OpenCore installer would be best to use.

I appreciate any advice I can get, thanks

How to verify an existing macOS installer downloaded from copy link in download macOS installer

2017 MacBook Air 13 inch, 8GB Ram,

I have been following youtube tutorials on how to install macOS Sequaia and all of them used the download macOS installer option on opencore patcher, but I have to Use existing MacOS installer because downloading from the macOS installer always does not finish and results in an error. I copied the link for macos Sequoia by the download macOS installer option and pasted to Safari to download the package. I then used existing macOS installer on Opencore patcher after unpacking the package. Then instead of verifying the package first like how the tutorials show, it takes me straight to select macOS installer and select local disk with no verification. I have been struggling to install Sequaia for the past 3 days because it does not want to download from download macos installer and I am suffering a mental breakdown, please please please help

Can I upgrade my Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 without erasing my hard drive?

Hi everybody,

I have 20 Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 iMacs at my school that I need to upgrade as adobe photoshop told me it was recommended to use a later OS than my iMac can support. Is there a way to upgrade those iMacs without erasing the hard drive as it's full of students files? Thanks in advance

After installing EFI iCloud Acesse dropped

Dear all,

I tried to update my late 2015 iMac. After modifying the boot section I normally booted to the desktop, but now all desktop icons are gone :) and most iCloud services are greyed out:

RAM Configuration Alert

Hello, I am running Mac OS Monterey in Proxmox VE. The VM has 15GB of RAM and the host CPU an Intel N95 with integrated graphics.

I have Open Core configured as a Mac Pro and in the memory tab I get an alert about improper RAM configuration. Is it possible to trick it into thinking that RAM is optimally installed?

Strange Anomaly

I have an odd one. When I have been doing the OCLP install, and other Options selection, the screen will remain black until I close the lid, then when I reopen it, it springs to life. Can anyone shed any light on this? FYI - it doesn't do this with no OCLP installed, just Monterey, it is a Macbook Pro Retina 2015.

Worth upgrading from late 2011 to mid 2014?

Worth upgrading from late 2011 to mid 2014?

Hey y'all! Been using a late 2011 on sequoia for a while because of repairability/upgradeability, firewire, full size lan, and ODD (which i didn't like actually use, but still cool) and i do love it, but yeah it is kinda slow sometimes, the screen resolution just isn't really there and no metal support is a pain in the ass.

If everything goes well, i'm going to study informatical engineering next year, so i need something proper and battery life is also pretty important.

So i found a listing of a mid 2014 i5 for 150$ and i'm really thinking about it, is it worth it, what should i know about those models? Thanks!

how to fix this? trying to download the OS

What MacOs should I download on a 2011 MacBook Pro with 400Gb Ssd with 16gb of ram?

First time using Open core and not sure what would be best for my situation. Want something that will run smoothly and still be up to date. Seems like sequoia is a hit or miss with a lot of people so not sure if I want to go straight to that and risk having a bad experience. If possible lmk what you would recommend.

System Settings “Extension process exited” error after installing macOS 15.4 on MacBook Pro 15” 2017

System Settings “Extension process exited” error after installing macOS 15.4 on MacBook Pro 15” 2017

Hi! I installed Sequoia 15.4 on my MacBook Pro 2017 15” (MacBookPro14,3). Installed it on top of Ventura with all my files kept and clean install without signing in to iCloud, but the problem persists.

The installation went fine, and everything works except, when when trying to enable accessibility access for apps, or allowing background apps, the error: Extension process “x” exited. Pops up. And can’t make changes.

Anyone else has this problem? Does anyone have a solution for this?

MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 - Running Sequoia 15.4! (Surprisingly Usable?)

MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 - Running Sequoia 15.4! (Surprisingly Usable?)

I was using this Mac with Catalina, but Safari was outdated and causing issues on many websites. So, I installed Sonoma using OCLP, and then I thought, why not Sequoia? I updated directly from settings and gave it a shot. At first, it was laggy, but after applying the root patch with OCLP, it smoothed out.

For a 13-year-old machine, it runs the latest macOS surprisingly well! I installed it mostly as an experiment, but honestly, I didn't expect it to be this usable.

No more website compatibility issues. Plus, AirPods seamless switching is supported. Unlock with Apple Watch doesn’t work for logging in, but it does work for autofilling passwords in Chrome with a double-click. Small things, but they help maintain that Apple ecosystem convenience.

Of course, there are downsides: battery drains faster compared to older macOS versions, and it runs hotter. Not sure if there’s anything that can be done about those.

I’m still looking for ways to make it run smoother and maybe boost battery life. My system runs on an SSD, I’m also considering upgrading to 16 GB of RAM in the future.

(And maybe a useless fact, but the IR receiver still works!)

Something I came across today updating my MacBook Pros

I have 2 MacBook Pros mid 2012 both varies in specs non retina has a sandisk 500gb SSD and 4gb Ram. Retina MacBook Pro has 240gb sandisk SSD 8 gb of ram. Both are running Ventura. Updated OCLP to 2.3.1. Retina MacBook Pro lost sound as the non retina MacBook Pro did not. Currently moving files to usb to reinstall operating system. I’ll be updating post as soon as I get OS reinstalled.

Is it safe to patch my 2010 iMac ?

I'm asking because oclp 2.2.0 made the mac unbootable, I had to reinstall. So is this the case with root patching big sur on 2.3.1 ?

Apps not detecting camera after installing sequoia from ventura on my macbook pro mid 2012 13 inch. Help

iMac 2015 (17,1) installed the 15.4 update - and my machine locks up (unresponsive to mouse / kb) just a few seconds after logging in.

Hi OCLP redditors - I am hoping someone can help me here. I had this iMac running 15.3.2 without issue. I took the 15.4 update - and that is where things went wrong. I have the latest OCLP (2.3.1) and root patches are installed - and the Opencore booter is installed on the fusion drive without issue. No matter what I have tried - my UI locks up within a few seconds after logging in - it sure feels like a graphics issue - but I am not sure. Things I have tried so far:

Regenerate installer USB using OCLP 2.3.1. Re-install MacOS. Tried booting from the USB as well as the MacHDD. I have tried resetting PRAM. Safe boot DOES work ok - allowing me to at least get in and run OCLP changes as needed. However, every time my UI locks up right after logging in no matter what I have tried. I would hate to be forced to clean-install - as I have several licensed programs that I depend on.

Is this a known issue right now? Any ideas on what I can try to get the iMac running 15.4 properly? Thanks!

Not able to login to apple account after installing sequoia.

What can be done about this? (root patching internal error)

Cloning my old spinning HD to small SSD after opencore

I have a nice late 2015 27" mac running opencore with sequoia. Works great! I would like a little more preformance out of the old girl by moving to a SSD drive. So far I have tried many canned methods to clone the drive, but no luck. I am thinking my issue is trying to clone a 1TB(with only 140gb used) and force into a 500gb drive. Thoughts or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Big Sur doesn't boot anymore after upgrading to OCLP 2.3.0

Apparently it's a known issue. Loading the OS stops after a while.
Don't know if it has been fixed with version 2.3.1 but I need help going back to a previous state.
No backups.
Didn't find a fix for it yet and the OCLP troubleshooting guide doesn't help.

Thanks.

Dyslexic so don’t have a clue how to update MacBook

Hello! I will try to explain this as simply as possible, I bought a MacBook Pro 15inch 2014. As you can imagine it won’t let me download anything or update anything. How can I update it to the latest update? (If that’s a thing). I don’t have lots of money so don’t want it to be a waste. Also as mentioned I am dyslexic and do best with lists, so I’d really love if someone could explain in steps :) thanks for reading!!!

Stuck on new update page

Hi,

I have updated my opencore legacy patcher to version 2.3.1 and I am trying to update my Imac 2013 (14,2) from Sequoia 14.2 to 14.4 but there is a loop downloading the update.

Sometimes the download completes, but machine does not restart to install updates. If I manually restart the computer it does not show any progress of installation, it just come back to screen to login and I have to download update again and it keeps going on and on.

Since yesterday I am trying to update this machine.

I have another machine, a macbook pro retina display 2015, and the update when fine.

Newbie….messed up!

OK, this is my first time using open core. The install went OK a little hiccup over the Wi-Fi. Got it fixed, thanks to this group. Then it wanted to do the update everything seem to go OK, but when it went to restart and it won’t get off the Apple screen. What do I do? I can’t restart and safe mode. I can’t do anything. Did I just fry my computer?

EXTREME lag on sequoia after using Web Drivers patch for nvidia.

today i successfully installed my first hackintosh on a ryzen 5 3600 + 1050ti (+1030 technically but that card is not even connected to the monitor). everything worked "fine" until i decided to finally get the oclp patches for gpu acceleration. the patch installed without any issue, however upon reboot system became unbearably slow. i could see that instead of the generic NVIDIA (0x10de) placeholders the gpus were actually recognized, i could change the display refresh rate, transparency appeared and animations worked "fine". however despite that, the actual system feels as if its running at 5 fps. everything is EXTREMELY slow and outright unusable. reverting the patch made system actually responsive again, however obviously all the previously mentioned benefits went away. if needed, i can provide a video. have anybody else experienced this? any help appreciated!!

Small Security Update in OpenCore?

I still have a great Running MacBook Pro 17’ from 2010. I use OpenCore and have macOS Monterey Version 12.7.4 running. I wanted to Upgrade OpenCore, but the Root Patch doesn’t renew because somehow a minor Security Update to 12.7.6 is pending in the background.

Question: Can I do this minor Security Update without F…in up the whole Install?

(Monterey seems the best stable system for this old Laptop, am I right? Or would you scrap the small Update and jump to Sonoma right away?)

I’d appreciate your opinion and thank you in advance.
