Solution for Stuck macOS Recovery:
After trying many platforms and videos without success, here’s what finally worked:
Avoid using:
CMD+R (Standard Recovery)
Option+CMD+R (Latest macOS Recovery)
Use this instead:
Shift+Alt+CMD+R
This forces macOS Recovery to install the original macOS version that came with your Mac.
Next while it loads prepare your USB Installer:
Download the macOS installer compatible with your iMac onto a USB drive.
Visit Mr. Macintosh's website for a guide on creating the bootable installer.
Steps Once in Recovery:
- Delete your SSD using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format in Disk Utility.
- Restart your iMac with the bootable USB inserted. (Don't hold anything down!)
- Begin installation from the USB.
And voilà! Your iMac should now install macOS successfully.
