hihi
I have a early 2008 mac pro (a cheese grater) that was previously running patched catalina perfectly fine (but being dropped by apps now so had to update).
ive tried semona and sequoia but both have the same problem where the install goes relatively fine using the card that came with my mac (a nvidia geforce GT120 for mac) and will work on it (but performs awfully cause its a really old gpu obviously lol), except will crash after some time - but whenever my upgraded gpu is connected (a msi radeon HD 7970 3gb) it will not boot
the gpu that came with mac has the firmware to show boot options n such but the upgraded one doesnt so tried everything such as both gpus in at once (refuses to continue install), installing with the gpu that came with it and switching for patches (wont boot and restarts), installing patches and everything with gpu that came and swapping to new gpu (same thing, wont boot), keeping new gpu in for whole thing and blindly going to the installer (never shows it) so it just seems anytime the new gpu is connected it just refuses
with the old gpu it boots and works if the usb is in but running of ssd will crash fully after 10 seconds and running on usb with old gpu will crash after a few minutes
so i want to get the upgraded gpu working if possible - it worked perfectly on catalina and i would prefer not having to spend more money trying more gpus, might install mac firmware to the new gpu
side note, the boot menu takes 3 restarts to be able to show the boot menu with it just ignoring the alt being held down for the first 2
posting here as im stuck on what to do now and wondering if anyones got any idea?
fyi: apologies if ive missed smth and just being dumb lol
thanks :)
