I updated my Mac from big sur to ventura

I updated my Mac from big sur to ventura

I just wanna say this, Ventura feels better than another MacOS in this Mac, I even feel that it is faster, it opens the panels faster and smoother.

Ventura stuck in Kernel Panic on first boot after install

Ventura stuck in Kernel Panic on first boot after install

Tried installing Ventura on my MacBook Pro 12,1 (Retina 13, 2015). Install source is on usb stick in the left sub port and target disk is another usb stick (256GB) on the right usb port. I have verbose output enabled in the boot config and can see that the OS boot crashes with the kernel panic about 2mins into booting.

The MacBook has no internal replacement components and there are no USB hubs between the usb sticks and the MacBook ports.

I repeated the install with different USB sticks 3x so far. Always the same result on first boot with kernel panic.

Any idea what went wrong? I won’t install Ventura or any newer OS on the internal SSD unless I get it to work on the external USB first. Did anyone observe a similar situation? Any fixes or workarounds?

“unbless” OCLP EFI partition (OpenCore Picker) on Native Mojave OS Volume

“unbless” OCLP EFI partition (OpenCore Picker) on Native Mojave OS Volume

cMP 5,1 with unflashed GPU

I used a native Mojave OS volume which booted on the cMP 5,1 to build and install OCLP 2.2.0 to prepare a new separate volume installing Sonoma OS. The native Mojave OS volume booted normally without the OCLP boot picker (OpenCore Picker) and I was able to use the native Mojave OS to create and build a OCLP macOS installer for the new separate volume and that worked for that new separate Sonoma OS volume. My issue is that I decided to enable (bless) the OpenCore EFI on the native Mojave OS volume on the cMP 5,1 with unflashed GPU following the instructions on the Dortania Booting OpenCore and MacOS unflashed GPUs section of the guide. And that work to show the OpenCore Picker as promised by the instructions. However I am unable to boot into the native Mojave OS or the Recovery feature of that Mojave OS and would like know how to undo “unbless” reverse this mistake. If I select the recovery option of the Sonoma OS volume I am able to access that terminal and can see the volumes as I had originally done using diskutil list command. Google AI suggest using diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskXs1 (Replace X with the drive number) command will unmount the EFI partition and effectively “unbless” said EFI. Update: I need help with the 864 Core Sevices/boot.efi in the last photo. If I rebuild OCLP on that volume will it remove the "blessed" bot.efi? Please advise.

“unbless” OCLP EFI partition (OpenCore Picker) on Native Mojave OS Volume

Problems root patching OCLP and updating MacOS

Today I wanted to update my 2017 MBA but always short before the end of the update it just stops working and displays 35 minutes remaining without any progress. Then I tried root patching OCLP but it always stops at the mount root volume displaying „Failed to mount root volume, cannot continue witch patching!!!“. What is the problem and how can I solve this?

Cannot edit size of first partition on my main HDD on old macbook pro rerestoration via opencore patcher

Cannot edit size of first partition on my main HDD on old macbook pro rerestoration via opencore patcher

Hey everyone ill attach a screenshot to help better explain and keep this short...

I got a macbook pro from early 2010's for free it runs sierra 10 od now.

I am using the OpenCore patcher legacy but him stuck on the step where you create the macOS installer because my primary HDD partition is only like 15gb free space out of only 50gb the partition has max. I have a 500gb HDD this partition is on but it won't let me edit or add to the primary and first partition where the macOS installer is pulling from... anyone have any ideas??? Thanks!!

iMac 21.5” late 2015

Has anyone installed Sonoma onto a late iMac 2015 21.5” version? I’m planning to install Sonoma later, but was hoping for input first! It has a 1tb Fusion Drive, apparently the SSD partition is not large enough to install Mac OSX software on, it’s 26gb and I need 35gb? Thanks for any input

Help with OCLP created EFI Boot File for Macbook Pro

I created the Boot USB for my MacBook Pro 12.1 from 2015 both with Ventura and Sonoma.
Result is the same I can choose the EFI Boot but when I click it it starts the Mac in the old macOS Monterey. Has anyone an idea how to solve that?

“Photomator” can’t be opened because your device does not support the Metal graphics technology.

Since upgrading Photomator from 3.4.4 to 3.4.5 (via the App Store) I get the following message when attempting to launch the app:

“Photomator” can’t be opened because your device does not support the Metal graphics technology.

Photomator 3.4.4 would launch without any errors or issues and I've not changed anything else.

Current setup:

iMac 27-inch, Late 2013

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M

macOS Sequoia 15.2

OCLP 2.0.0

Anybody else have this issue or can launch Photomator 3.4.5 without any errors?

Many thanks

Disable boot chime permanently

Hi! I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 13-inch. It is currently running High Sierra but before that I tried Big Sur on it but because the lack of metal support and software-rendered stuff that resulted a lot of graphical glitches and poor performance I went back to the last official MacOS that is supported. But in any moment I will upgrade to Big Sur or Monterey again. In Big Sur an option was introduced to disable the boot chime but when using OpenCore Legacy Patcher this option is not doing what it needs to do. So is there a simple command or solution to get rid of the boot chime? (I don’t want to set the device’s volume to 0% every time.) Thanks!

How to remove Mac OS Update Installer

I attempted to apply the Sequoia 15.2 update to my OCLP Mac 6,1 which is currently running OS 15.1.1 without issue.

Unfortunately, the OS Update Boot volume which shows in the Boot picker screen doesn't work and I get the dreaded "contact Apple Support" message. The Boot drive is still available and I can choose that and the machine boots into 15.1.1 just fine.

Does anyone know how to remove the OS Update Install Volume that shows up in the Boot Picker? It is the default so if I don't catch it it fails at startup and I need to do the escape tricjk to manually choose the Boot drive.

I had old Macbook Pro 13" 2015 where I installed open core legacy and unsupported macOS. Installed Sonoma, and after while also Sequoia. With Sequoia system was already really slow and in combination with several other bugs I decided to get rid of OCLP and perform factory reset.

Problem was I couldn't.

Macbook didn't let me go to macOS recovery - CMD+R always ended with infinite (but completed) loading bar screen with Apple logo.

Same situation happend with internet recovery. Again only loading bar with Apple logo showed up but never load no matter how long I waited. And same happened with bootable USB.

SO HOW TO GET RID OF IT? (backup important data before)

1) run OCLP and press "create macOS installer. Select the oldest possible system to install (in my case it was Big Sur) and install the system.

2) When installation is complete you should be able to access recovery mode by now when pressing CMD+R during restart.

Problem was OCLP was still there even after factory reset - and boot from USB still wasn't possible.

3) Go to recovery mode again CREATE A NEW DISK PARTITION in disk utility. By now it should already offer Monterey which was the last supported macOS - Install it to the NEWLY CREATED PARTITION.

When Monterey is installed, OCLP app should be gone and any OCLP folders as well.

4) Go to recovery mode again and in disk utility locate the old disk partition and remove it.

By now OCLP crap should be gone. You can verify it in the terminal via "diskutil list" command. Also it is possible to do during startup while you hold option key (no EFI disk should be there). Same in System preferences - startup disk (no other disk than a startup disk).

This is how I was able to bypass being stucked in OCLP. Hope it helps.

MacBook 6,1 not booting all the way into MacOS after fresh install.

Wiped the SSD and installed Big Sur via USB drive, using OCLP 2.2.0 to allow the installation. After installation completes the Mac tries to do the initial boot, but it gets stuck about 1/3 of the way in the boot process. I have reset the PRAM and SMC, and I have wiped the drive a second time for a new install attempt.

What should I do differently?

Can I Boot a Windows 11 SSD from USB Using OCLP if it has no EFI Partition?

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with two SSDs installed, one of which has a lightweight Windows 11 install that I use for iTunes and my iPods. I boot this drive using OCLP on the Mac Pro which runs Ventura on the other drive (OCLP is on the Ventura SSD). I tried plugging in the Win11 SSD in to an enclosure - the MacBook Pro (2016 15-inch 2.8 i7) sees the drive but it does not appear in the OCLP picker, I discovered it has no EFI partition - but it works as you'd want it to on my Mac Pro, just select it from the picker. Anyway I can get this drive to boot and then add needed drivers afterwards etc? Thanks in advance

OCLP with Serial Number change breaks iServices?

So I recently picked up an older Macbook Pro at Goodwill, and thought no problem, nothing looks broken and I can OCLP to Sonoma (and maybe Sequoia eventually). The issue came when I found it locked by an organization's MDM. A little digging and I learned I could spoof a serial number with OCLP just like I do on my hackintosh, so I found a SN with an unconfirmed purchase date and set it in my config.plist.

Then, following the Doratina guide, I used GenSMBIOS to get the SN/MLB/UUID and made up a ROM. Everything booted fine and I was able to get into the computer on a fresh install, but now I get "unknown error" when trying to sign into iServices. Figured since I did the same thing I do on my hackintosh it should work, but so far no dice.

Any thoughts? Is iService just a lost cause due to the SN change?

Sonoma 14.6.1 OCLP2.2.0 and Firewire working perfectly on my 2011 MacbookPro9,1 - Quad core i7 2.3

I decided to put it to the test with my RME Fireface 800 and 400, and both work perfectly on this. The only thing to remember to do is to go to privacy and select allow for the driver to work. This is great news!

Opencore not see my linux partition

Hi

Is not my first time on opencore and I have already do a triple boot with opencore with :

  • Windows
  • Osx
  • Linux

Now after fix some issue with my osx installation, I install in a secondary patition linux (ubuntu) in the same ssd where is installed the osx . Windows have a nvme dedicated.

I use this guide and preferer the "Method A: OpenLinuxBoot"

https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Multiboot/oc/linux.html

After the installation of linux I do:

Enable driver on opencore (OpenLinuxBoot.efi and ext4_x64.efi)

Also "Make sure RequestBootVarRouting and LauncherOption are enabled in config.plist; it is also recommended to enable HideAuxiliary in order to hide older Linux kernels"

After the installation on linux on the same ssd of osx i replace the EFI with the opencore EFI

But when I reboot on opencore the linux partition doesen't appears, only Windows and mac, I don0t know why:

Here my actual EFI :

DarkWake on macOS Catalina | boot args darkwake=8 & darkwake=10 are obsolete

Thanks I have a Lenovo T530 laptop. In order to fix instant wake issues, I have to use an SSDT which changes a value for the XHCI controller. Maybe this is what hinders the waimg from USB. Will test and report later.

Run Older Version of MacOS Off External Storage

Hi all - apologies if this is the wrong place, but looking to ask a question as below:

I have a MBP 2016 2.8 Ghz Core i7 15-inch that I am about to install OCLP and Sequoia on later - am familiar with OCLP as my 2010 Mac Pro has been benefitting for years now. But, I use Windows 11 on my Mac Pro on a separate drive for sycning my iPods with iTunes. Given my MBP is now quite old I could run an old version of MacOS that still HAS iTunes built in. Would I be able to run an old version of MacOS on that drive storing my Music and syncing to my iPods using a Type-C hub?

Sorry if that sounds complicated, but the TL;DR I'd like to use OCLP as normal, but when I connect a certain external drive boot to an older version of MacOS in order to sync my iPods (performance is not a concern as the iPods are limited by USB 2.0 anyway)

Having Issues with my Asus Laptop Keyboard using VoodooPS2Controller

Hi, I have my own fork of VoodooPS2 driver including separate VoodooPS2Keyboard inside. You may test it. The link is in my signature. I did the follow: compiled debug version of the driver, started the system and look into system.log. Then pressed all keys and checks their scan-codes. Then I wrote a system reply to each key, not a big deal.

Mid 2010 IMAC with Sonoma - Host a Windows VM?

Hi All, just upgraded and setup my iMAC mid 2010 and opted for Sonoma and it is all working (except Metal as expected). Should I be able to install Fusion or other virtualization and create a windows VM? I have had no luck, I get a XSAVE chipset missing error from the latest Fusion. VirtualBox was the same on Version 7 and on version 6 it gives me Display Create errors.
Any thoughts on how I can run windows appreciated. Thanks

MacOS Seqouia slow on Mac Mini 2011.

I recently installed Sequoia on an outdated Mac without an SSD using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Is it supposed to be that slow compared to High Sierra? I am planning on upgrading it with an SSD and 16GB of RAM anyways. Any good macOS system drive cloning software that work with USB to SATA adapters?

Question.

So I got two new hard drive. A 2TB and a 4TB for my Mac with olcp on sequoia. The 2 TB after setting it up once is now is greyed out and disappears randomly during any fix. It always errors no matter what. The 4TB when I tried to set it up it turned into a 250g then I noticed in disk until it had 16TB free. Again I bought a 4TB so I tried to see if I could manipulate the full 16TB or so with disk. But once I got the 16TB showing I set the disk up with disk utility and it errored and now doesn’t show up at all unlike the other one. My next attempt with be my Xbox And then windows on my Mac.

The question now is will the duel boot windows on MBP read the disk? Or do I need an actual windows pc or other?

And if you have a solution I’ll gladly take that also. It’s not the usb port, it’s not the wires it’s the hard drives. if it’s not some glitch it’s gotta be this mounted virtual disk store file.crpytext that won’t unmount.

Post your year and model of your mac and what OCLP version and MacOS version you are running.

Why do we not have a stickied thread that us users can post our success stories to or at the least post what hardware we are using and what OCLP/MacOS we installed. I'll start:

--------------------

Model: Early 2015, Macbook Air 11" (MacBookAir7,1)

CPU/RAM/STORAGE: i7, 8GB RAM, 2TB SSD (last mba models you could upgrade SSD)

OCLP: 2.2.0

MacOS: 15.2.0

Status: Very stable! Boot up from power off = approx 25 secs, wakeup from suspend = 7 secs. Photos, iMessage, Facetime all working great. Garageband and iMovie also working as good as it did on last support MacOS. VMWare Fusion used to run Win10 bootcamp within MacOS.

Also have bootcamp and WIndows 10 setup on machine and it is working just like previously and also can use boot camp partition in VMWare Fusion 13 still too!

Issues: mainly cosmetic, wifi icon will not show active right away but will after a minute. a little longer boot times from powered off. iphone screen mirroring not working.

Notification Center Issues

No issues upgrading to Sequoia however notifications in the notification center that require an action do not respond. It just shows “Option” and will disappear after a few seconds. Tried clicking on it multiple times and looking for shortcuts without luck.

This is an issue as I am trying to do a remote session with this box via their iCloud account and it prompts for approval, but just times out.

Any advice or solutions would be much appreciated.

Running on a 2010 iMac 21.5” and found same error on 2009 iMac 27”. Both are non-metal.

Thanks!

Can't connect to local network for several minutes after reboot, and other strange network issues

Hi all,

Thought I'd post here before other Mac subreddits, considering this is only happening on my late 2013 Mac Pro running Sequoia via OCLP.

First is that on reboot I can't connect to any of my self-hosted services, router, or other machines on my local network. This is across multiple vlans, but always within the bounds of my home network (e.g. 192.168.1 - 192.168.6 subnets). This happens for any type of service I try to connect to on my home network, regardless if that's http/https, ssh, vnc, etc. and also whether it's by DNS or IP. The extra weird part is that some connections work, as I'm able to browse external websites which would require traffic from my Mac Pro to get DNS from my PiHole instance (local) as well as traverse through my Ubiquiti router (which I can't connect to via https in a browser). After ~2 - 3 minutes with no changes or action on my part, any local connection I try to make start working again. To be clear, there are no errors being generated by my local hosted services - every error I get is a connection timeout. At the same time my Mac Pro can't connect, I've verified that other hosts can in fact connect to these local services.

I don't know if this is related or not, but WiFi doesn't work at all - it connects to my AP, gets all the same DHCP info that the ethernet connection gets, but won't connect to either internal or external network nodes. That being the case, I keep WiFi turned off, and I exclusively use a wired connection. As the Mac Pro has 2 ethernet ports, I've also tried switching the port, but I still get the weird issue I mentioned in the 1st paragraph.

This is on a fresh install of Sequoia. I had a bunch of testing and dev tools on this machine previously and it had gotten a bit crufty so I did a drive format and install when switching from Sonoma to Sequoia. Part of the reason I did so was this issue was happening on Sonoma as well. I don't recall if it also was happening on Ventura, but I don't believe it was. I don't have any special firewall settings or network settings going on either.

Any ideas?

MBP mid 2012 Ventura 13.7.2 shows different AppleID user icon and wallpaper on startup screen

Hi everybody. Thank you for this great Reddit.

I upgraded my MBP mid 2012 from Catalina to Ventura 13.7.2 following the instructions in the OCLP Guide. There where some hiccups where the install was looping but somehow I managed solving that (restart with option key) and (I believe) successfully installed OpenCore on my harddrive. Well at least the machine is running, I can connect to Wifi, listen to music on my bluetooth speaker and everything else seems to run smoothly after first try.

The Post-Install menu suggests that all applicable patches are installed.

However I have two minor issues:

  1. On startup where entering my password to access my account (only account on this device) the photo in the user icon is an old picture, the one before my recent one. The background is not my personal background but the standard Ventura wallpaper. After entering my password the screen loads for a while and the wallpaper changes colors (looks like the machine is trying out different color profiles).

  2. While writing this text I noticed that my bluetooth speaker keeps disconnecting randomly.

Thank you for reading my post, looking forward to any hints on this matter.
