I’m seeking clarification to avoid making any mistakes. I want to upgrade my MacBook Pro 15" 2016 to macOS Sonoma. The native macOS is Monterey.
I’ve read online that many recommend upgrading to Ventura first and then to Sonoma to preserve the T1 firmware. However, I found this issue on the official OpenCore Legacy Patcher GitHub repo (https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/issues/1103), where they announced a fix for the T1 chip issue in OpenCore v1.1.0. Additionally, there is a recent release for Sequoia too (https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases/tag/2.2.0).
Does this mean I can directly upgrade to Sonoma/Sequoia without needing to go through Ventura, and still maintain T1 chip capabilities?
Thanks in advance for any advice or insights! Happy holidays
