If you’re encountering the error "Cannot Start Editing: Photos cannot load edits. Please try again later" when using the Photos app on macOS Sequoia 15.0.1, particularly with the Selective Colour tool, here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Steps to Resolve the "Cannot Load Edits" Error in Photos App
1. Verify macOS Compatibility
- Since you're using an rMBP with OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP), some newer macOS features may be partially supported or unstable on older hardware.
- Ensure you have the latest OCLP version installed, as updates often include patches to improve compatibility.
2. Update macOS Sequoia and Photos App
- Make sure you’re on the latest version of macOS Sequoia (15.0.1), as minor updates may contain bug fixes.
- You can check for updates in System Settings > Software Update.
- If you have any Photos app updates available, update it as well.
3. Optimize Photos Library
- Rebuild the Photos Library to fix potential data inconsistencies:
- Open Photos while holding down the Option + Command keys.
- In the dialog that appears, select Repair.
- Follow the prompts to rebuild the library (this can take time depending on library size).
4. Disable Selective Colour in System Preferences
- Selective Colour may be an issue with certain hardware configurations on OCLP. Try disabling any system color management settings or resetting custom color profiles:
- Go to System Settings > Display.
- Reset or adjust your display profile to a default color profile and test the Photos app again.
5. Test Photos App in Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode to see if a startup item is causing interference.
- Shut down your Mac, then start it while holding the Shift key.
- Open Photos and test the Selective Colour sliders.
- Restart normally and check if the issue persists.
6. Create a New User Account
- Sometimes user-specific settings can interfere with Photos.
- Create a new user account in System Settings > Users & Groups.
- Log into this account, open Photos, and test the Selective Colour sliders to see if the error persists.
7. Reinstall OCLP Patches
- Occasionally, reinstalling OCLP patches can help:
- Reopen the OpenCore Legacy Patcher application.
- Go through the steps to reapply the patches for your Mac model.
- Restart your Mac and try Photos again.
8. Clear Photos Cache
- Deleting the Photos app’s cache might help resolve corrupt data that’s causing the error:
- Close the Photos app.
- In Finder, go to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/Data/Library/Caches.
- Delete the cache files, then restart Photos.
Additional Notes
- Backup Your Library: Before making changes, back up your Photos Library in case data loss occurs.
- Contact OCLP Community Support: If the issue persists, the OCLP support community may have further insights on this specific error.
These steps should help resolve or identify the cause of the Photos app error on your Mac. Let me know if you need further assistance with any step!
"Photos cannot load edits. Please try again later." error on Photos app
submitted by /u/YamCrafty Hi!
I'm on Sequoia 15.0.1 on my rMBP (OCLP) and every time I try to use the "Selective Colour" sliders I get this error: "Cannot Start Editing: Photos cannot load edits. Please try again later.".
I tried to delete my library and create a new one, same problem.
Anyone else got this error?
Thank you
