Help: How to bypass tiny text after failed Sonoma upgrade on MBP'12?

I am on the latest version of Catalina, was hoping to upgrade to Sonoma, but got the error "an error message ocurred while preparing the installation. try running this application again" when trying to run the Sonoma installer after reboot (screenshot below). As a result I tried to reboot once again and keep receiving a huge bunch of text like screenshot below. I am trying to reboot into recovery mode but the text appears right away and there's lots of it... any idea how I can bypass this to enter recovery mode and go back to factory settings? Thanks in advance!

For reference, these are my specs: MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) Intel HD, 16GB ram, 500GB SSD, intel core i7
