Goodbye Sonoma - hello upgrade or downgrade, thoughts?

It's been a month since I upped my MacBookPro 10.1 to Sonoma. It gave me a lot of trouble in the beginning (no bluetooth, flickering screen, etc) most of which I was able to resolve with a NVRAM reset and SMC reset. However, I am now stuck with two rather big issues that I can't get out of the way: 1. huge delays when the cursor reacts extremely slowly (when it does that, the cursor gets XXXL large as can be seen in screenshot in the comments) and 2. it can't sleep anymore. When I shut the laptop for it to have a night's sleep, the next day I have to force restart because its all frozen. Interestingly, the cursor getting slower and slower and sometimes even logging me out completely doesn't seem to be related to huge constraints on the OS (my laptop makes a huge noise normally when I am throwing too much at it, and that is not the case here, it is very quiet).

After having missed my train today because of the laptop being too slow to print what I needed... I am left with no other choice but to try a different OS. My main issue in deciding whether to up or downgrade is Time Machine, which to my knowledge is the only way to migrate my 100GB+ of chat messages from different 3rd party providers. BUT if I downgrade, I can't use time machine anymore... if I upgrade, I am concerned the experience will be even worse than what I have now... any genius with some thoughts on what to do? Thanks!
