Need to reset NVRAM on every boot up - MacOS MacBook Pro

I am refurbishing an older 2016 MacBook Pro. It started off as a screen replacement, after I replaced the existing LCD with a better one, I noticed that every boot all I would see is a blank screen (never tested booting up with the old screen since the mac was dead, the battery icon showed). I could hear the ring of the machine starting up, but the screen was black. I tested connecting to an external monitor and the issue persisted. Was unable to boot into startup menu/recovery.

I was about to give up on this but then tested resetting the NVRAM. It was still a black screen but once I typed in my password blindly, the mac loaded in! After rebooting, the same issue occurred where i could not see anything and even typing my password in blindly didn't work (without resetting NVRAM first).

Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
