Currently on a Late 2009 iMac 27", Core i7 @ 2.8GHz, 32GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4850 (512MB), 2TB SSD running High Sierra. I'm just now starting to run into a situation where I need a newer OS, specifically for my Cricut which updated the software a couple of months ago and now requires Catalina and I've been running the old software ever since but that's not going to be sustainable.
I found the macOS Catalina Patcher which by the accounts I've read seems to run well enough on my machine, but I also figured if I'm going to go that far I might as well see how far I can go before things really start getting shaky and that's when I found Open Core Legacy Patcher.
I read about the USB keyboard issue with Sonoma, and I watched a couple of videos of people with similar machines as mine having various stability and performance issues. One guy was trying to work in GarageBand but it kept crashing, and later he was playing games on Steam but a few of the games weren't rendering graphics (at all). Admittedly neither of those affects me; I don't use GarageBand and I don't play games on the Mac, but still the random-ish stability issues are a concern. One thing I noticed in all of the videos I saw is they're all running Core 2 Duo machines, not Core i7, so I'm now wondering if I'd have similar stability/performance issues with my processor.
I don't need the latest-and-greatest; I'm just trying to get a bit more life out of my beast. My goals are stability, compatibility (I don't want to lose hardware features like Bluetooth), and performance, probably in that order. Thanks.
