how safe would it be to upgrade my macbook 2012 pro that can’t go past catalina to big sur

Ps remote play requires 11.0 or later so i big sur. would getting big sur be the safest route since it’s the closest to what i have or should i go another route?

also ive tried downloading a previous version of remote play and that didnt work
