Can OCLP bypass macOS refusing firmware update on MacBookAir w/ non-Apple SSD

I've got a MacBook Air (MacBookAir6,1) now running Ventura, 13.6.9 (Build 22G830) with OCLP 1.5.0. Long before it had OCLP it got an upgrade from the Apple SSD to an OWC Aura N (960 GB) - but since then macOS updates refuse to install current firmware - so it's stuck at EFI version 118.0.0.0 when the current version is 478.0.0.0.0. Unfortunately I no longer have the Apple SSD (and besides, isn't the firmware on the drive in the EFI partition?), so redoing the last supported OS install on that isn't an option to get new firmware.

Does OCLP have sufficient control over the install and boot process to fake out macOS so that it's possible to get the current firmware installed?
