MBP stuck on wallpaper and beach ball of death when reopening the lid

Model : MacBookPro11,2 Os : Sonoma

Didn't do anything besides the basic process to install go from Big Sur to Sonoma

Everything works fine, boots up with no problem, runs with no problems EXCEPT when I close the lid, or put it to sleep and then try to resume it, and all it greets me with is the background and cursor which soon turns into the spinning ball ( attached pic )

Didn't face this issue when it was running on Big Sur

Anyone idea what could be done to fix it?
