So I finally have a stable setup, open core 1.0.0
Asus z790 Proart 14700k 6950 XT G skill Trident Z5 2x32 ddr5 6400 Sn850x nvme
I am putting together a ludicrously detailed guide, and the thing that is most puzzling is the number of reboots that occur before Sonoma finally loads after install.
As I am putting together the guide I am at a loss for how to explain to people the expectation regarding reboots, as the number of reboots I am seeing seems to be greater than per dortania guide.
Here is what I noticed after installing several times:
- first boot to USB to start install seems to reboot once before getting to the Sonoma install screen where it shows 2.5 hours remaining
- then back to open core and choose install MacOS, then apple logo and showing 25 minutes remaining
- another reboot and now in open core I see Sonoma, and choose Sonoma - at this point a reboot almost immediately after verbose output
- again choose Sonoma in open core, and a few more reboots (3 ?) this time lengthy verbose each time
- finally to the Sonoma setup, choosing Timezone, etc, and complete install
At this point Sonoma will boot fine from open core.
This is somewhat reproducible, so in my guide I can't figure out what to say other than "don't worry, just go back to opencore after each reboot and all will be ok"
Do others have this experience? Is this quantity of reboots actually normal?
Thanks
By the way I made installer in windows for what it is worth, and have windows 11 already installed. Windows I boot from BIOS. I also have Sonoma on another nvme. So in making my guide I am installing Sonoma a second time, separately to yet another NVMe. That said, when I installed to first nvme install had same behavior. Behavior also same when I removed other NVMe drives.
