Performance on 2017 MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar, 3.1 GHz 8GB RAM, Intel Graphics 650 - 1536MB?

I tried Sonoma a couple of months ago on this machine and it was so laggy that it was useless. I’m on Ventura which runs pretty smoothly.

Is the seriously slowness an issue other people have had too?
