Updates and problem

Hi, I just updated to Sonoma on a MacBook Pro (mid 2012).

I have two questions.

I read somewhere that it's better to turn automatic system updates off. Does this also apply to the urgent security updates/system files option?

And there is something weird where the top bar doesn't always auto return/show when my mouse hovers over it.. Like it only shows when there's an app like chrome open.
