I updated from Ventura to Sonoma 14.4.1 and, except for know issues, everything seems to be working as expected. OpenCoreLegacyPatcher noticed the upgrade, downloaded the needed stuff, and after the install finished reinstalling the patches went without a hitch. It's probably just psychological but things seem to be a little snappier now.
i5-2500S, 32 GB, AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB and the OS is on an external Thunderbolt SATA SSD.
