Drivers randomly stopped working after battery died, reinstall of the patches resulted in it hanging on login

13” Late 2013 MacBook Pro. Battery died, then drivers stopped working (I can confirm graphics stopped, and I presume the others did too), which persisted through a reboot.

After I reran the root patches, it booted and the graphics drivers seem to work (proper colour of password box), but attempting to log in results in it showing the spinner, then it disappears and hangs.

Edit: after following the instructions for “Stuck on boot after root patching”, I was able to log in, but after applying the root patches again, it now logs in to a black screen
