Guide Step by Step:
Backup Your System:
- Before making any changes, ensure you have a complete backup of your system. Time Machine is a convenient way to do this, but ensure the backup is stored on an external drive.
Download the Latest Version of OCLP:
- Visit the OpenCore Legacy Patcher official GitHub page.
- Download the latest release suitable for your macOS version.
Review Update Notes and Documentation:
- Carefully read the release notes for the version you're about to install. Pay attention to any specific instructions or warnings that might pertain to your system configuration.
Prepare for the Update:
- It's wise to review any custom settings or modifications you've made to your OCLP configuration. Make note of these, as you may need to reapply them after the update.
Update OCLP:
- Open the downloaded OCLP application.
- Navigate to the "Settings" tab before applying the update and ensure that any custom settings are correctly configured.
- Use the application to update your system's OpenCore installation. This will likely involve mounting your system's EFI partition and replacing or updating the OpenCore files with those provided by the new OCLP version.
Apply Patches:
- After updating OCLP, apply any necessary patches to your system. This may include GPU patches, which could resolve your choppy graphics issue.
- Reboot your system once the patches have been applied.
Test Your System:
- After rebooting, test your system thoroughly. Check not just the graphics but also other components like sound, networking, and sleep/wake functionality.
- If you encounter issues, use the OCLP application to tweak settings or reapply patches as needed.
Troubleshooting:
- If your Mac fails to boot or you encounter other critical issues, reboot into recovery mode.
- You may need to use the Terminal in recovery mode to delete problematic kext files or adjust settings manually.
- Refer to the OCLP documentation and support forums for specific troubleshooting steps related to your issue.
Create a New Backup:
- Once you're confident that the update has been successful and your system is stable, create a new backup of your system. This ensures you have a recent restore point.
Stay Informed:
- Regularly check the OCLP GitHub page and forums for updates, especially if new macOS updates are released. Updates to macOS may require subsequent updates to OCLP to maintain system compatibility and performance.
Note: This process is designed to minimize the risk of issues during the update, but it's important to proceed cautiously and to always have a recent backup available. Given the variability in system configurations and the specific patches applied, there's always some risk involved in updating system software on patched systems.
Hi there,
I am currently running the following configuration:
Mac Mini Late 2012 (6,1)
2 SSDs
macOS Sonoma 14.2.1
Open Core Legacy Patcher Version 1.3.0
Everything ran smoothly for the past couple of months, but as of today graphics are rather choppy. This has happened to me in the past and I went ahead and updated Open Core Legacy Patcher to the newest version.
Unfortunately my Mac would not boot in the past after the update and I would have to go through the troubleshooting steps and delete keg files to be able to access my system again.
I was therefore wondering if any of you could tell me how to update Open Core Legacy Patcher "the right way" to avoid this drama.
tldr: graphics started to act wonky and I would like to update/patch the system to the newest version.
Cheers!
