Guide:
Experiencing issues after installing Sonoma on your MacBook Pro 13 2017? Follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially revert back to Ventura:
Troubleshooting Sonoma Installation:
USB Installer Key Dependency:
- If your Mac requires the USB installer key to boot successfully into Sonoma, it suggests that the bootloader configuration might not be set up correctly. Revisit the bootloader configuration (OpenCore or Clover) and ensure that it's properly installed on your internal drive.
- Verify that the bootloader settings, such as ACPI, drivers, and kexts, are appropriate for your MacBook Pro model and hardware components.
WiFi and Bluetooth Issues:
- Non-functioning WiFi and Bluetooth are common issues after macOS installations on Hackintosh systems. Ensure that you have the necessary kexts and drivers installed to enable WiFi and Bluetooth functionality.
- Research and install compatible kexts or drivers for your specific WiFi and Bluetooth hardware. Tools like Hackintool can assist in identifying and installing the required drivers.
EFI Installation Location:
- If you suspect that the EFI might have been incorrectly installed on the USB stick instead of the internal drive, you can verify this by booting into Ventura (your previous macOS version) and checking the EFI partition on your internal drive.
- If the EFI partition is indeed missing or incorrect, you can use a macOS recovery environment or a bootable macOS installer USB drive to reinstall Ventura and ensure that the EFI is correctly installed on the internal drive.
Reverting to Ventura:
Backup Data:
- Before reverting to Ventura, ensure that you have backed up any important data from your Sonoma installation.
Boot into Recovery:
- Boot your MacBook Pro into macOS recovery mode by holding down Command + R during startup.
Restore from Backup:
- Use the macOS recovery tools to restore your system from a Time Machine backup or any other backup you have made before installing Sonoma.
Reinstall Ventura (Optional):
- If you prefer, you can use a macOS installer USB drive to perform a clean installation of Ventura on your MacBook Pro.
By following these troubleshooting steps and potentially reverting back to Ventura, you can address the issues encountered after installing Sonoma on your MacBook Pro 13 2017. Remember to double-check compatibility and configuration settings before proceeding with any changes to your system.
Hello,
I installed Sonoma, but probably messed up as many things aren't working.
1) I need the USB installer Key to boot if not the Mac pops an error Startup
2) Wifi isn't working
3) Bluetooth isn't working either...
Might it be that I didn't install the EFI on the Mac drive but on the USB stick?
So I would like to get back to Ventura, and maybe give it another try next week ...Because unless that the performance is quite good, I don't see any difference with Ventura even maybe faster sometimes.
Thanks for your help
