I just successfully replaced the hdd with an ssd and installed Big Sur on this machine using OCLP (reasoning that fit would run better on older hardware than Ventura or Sonoma). Afterwards I noticed that the case was getting very hot and determined that the fan was not running at all (I used Macs fan Control to check this, stayed at 0 no matter what the temp). I checked that the fan cable was properly reseated, which it was so I'm out of ideas. Could I have bodged the ssd install, or is there an issue with OCLP and these machines? (Or did the fan just now die, or was it dead for a while and pushing the machine with an unsupported OS made the temp spike so that I noticed it.)??
