BIOS Settings:
- Access BIOS/UEFI: Enter your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings by pressing the designated key during boot (usually Esc, F2, or Del).
- Adjust Settings: Configure BIOS settings such as Secure Boot (disable), VT-x (enable), VT-d (disable), and set SATA mode to AHCI.
Install Sonoma:
- Boot from USB: Insert the bootable USB drive and boot your laptop from it.
- Install Sonoma: Follow the on-screen instructions to install Sonoma on your laptop's internal drive.
Post-Installation Setup:
- Apply Patches: Use OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) to patch your iGPU (Intel HD 5500) and any other necessary patches for Broadwell compatibility.
- Configure Config.plist: Customize your OpenCore configuration (Config.plist) to include necessary ACPI, kexts, and drivers for your system.
Fix Hardware Compatibility:
- WiFi and Bluetooth: Replace the stock WiFi card with a compatible Broadcom BCM94352Z or BCM94360CS2 card for native macOS support.
- Sound: Install the appropriate kexts (like AppleALC) to enable sound functionality on your laptop.
- CMOS Checksum Error: Apply any required fixes to resolve CMOS checksum errors during boot.

Test and Troubleshoot:
- Verify Functionality: Test all essential features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, sound, sleep/wake, and hardware acceleration to ensure everything is working as expected.

Success with Sonoma on Broadwell. submitted by /u/Kingusik Didn‘t think it was gonna be this easy to be fair. Didn‘t have any major issues that I couldn‘t fix for more like a day. Originally I was on Monterey but decided to give Sonoma a go and see how it looks. Turns out it‘s pretty alright. My laptop is the HP EliteBook 840 g2 with the i5 5300u with Intel HD 5500 for those wondering. (Yes, I had to patch the iGPU with OCLP). Got pretty much everything working: WiFi, bluetooth, sound, no cmos checksum error, and sleep also works. [link] [comments] |
