Optimizing Final Cut Pro Export Speed on Hackintosh with RX 6800XT

Guide:

  1. Update macOS and Final Cut Pro: Ensure that your macOS Sonoma 14.3 and Final Cut Pro are updated to the latest versions to access any performance improvements and bug fixes.

  2. Check GPU Drivers: Make sure you have the correct GPU drivers installed for your MSI RX 6800XT Gaming Z Trio. Sometimes, using incorrect or outdated drivers can impact performance.

  3. GPU Acceleration Settings: In Final Cut Pro, go to Preferences > Playback and make sure "Better Quality" or "Better Performance" is selected for the "Use" option under "Playback Quality".

  4. Optimize Final Cut Pro Preferences: Go to Final Cut Pro > Preferences > Playback and make sure "Background Rendering" is enabled. This will utilize your GPU to render effects and transitions in the background, improving export speed.

  5. Check CPU and GPU Usage: Monitor your CPU and GPU usage during the export process using Activity Monitor or a similar tool. If either the CPU or GPU is not being fully utilized, there may be a bottleneck elsewhere in your system.

  6. Disable Background Apps: Close any unnecessary background apps or processes that may be consuming system resources during the export process.

  7. Disk Speed: Ensure that your Crucial BX500 SSD is not experiencing any performance issues or bottlenecks. You can use Disk Utility to check for any errors or perform maintenance tasks like repairing disk permissions.

  8. Hardware Acceleration: Some users have reported better performance with hardware acceleration enabled for certain export tasks. You can experiment with enabling or disabling hardware acceleration in Final Cut Pro to see if it improves export speed.

  9. Benchmarking: Run benchmark tests on your system to compare performance metrics with other similar setups. This can help identify any specific hardware or software issues affecting performance.

  10. Community Forums: Utilize online forums and communities dedicated to Hackintosh setups and Final Cut Pro optimization. Other users may have encountered similar issues and can provide valuable insights or solutions.

By following these steps and optimizing your Final Cut Pro settings, you should be able to improve the export speed on your Hackintosh with the MSI RX 6800XT Gaming Z Trio.
