Need to start twice

I'm currently using a late-2012 iMac 21.5-inch running Ventura 13.6.4 from an external SSD via OCLP 1.3.0. Typically, when I want to start it up, I simply press the power button and let it do its thing while I attend to other tasks. When I return, I enter my credentials, and everything runs smoothly.

However, lately, I've noticed that the Apple screen stays long time in view with the progress bar stuck at the beginning, showing no activity from the SSD. Each time this happens, I've had to press the power button to restart the machine. Oddly, it always boots properly on the second attempt, and I can log in without any issues.

I've attempted to resolve this by running the Post-Install Root Patch followed by a reboot, and then running Build and Install Opencore followed by another reboot. Unfortunately, this hasn't addressed the problem, and I still need to boot twice before the machine functions correctly. Interestingly, I don't encounter this issue when booting Sonoma from a different SSD.

Do you have any insights into what might be causing this and how to fix? Thanks.
