Mac 7,1 Monterey No Longer Running As Well

I installed Monterey onto my Mac 7,1(mid 2010), I used a 2TB external SSD to install it originally, I then went through post installation and installed open core onto the disk, installed the root patches, rebooted and everything worked fine. So I removed the external SSD and had it running a game macro for the past few days, now I have restarted it as I am away for a few days and after restarting the performance is awful(like it was before patches), I am not sure why or wether I should try booting off of the SSD when I get home again, I've tried root patching again but no luck. I am hoping it is just something to do with the SSD
