Guide:
Introduction: If you've encountered USB3 port recognition issues after updating to Big Sur on your iATKOS Project, this guide will help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem. Please follow the steps carefully to avoid potential system errors.
Requirements:
- iATKOS Project installation
- USB with macOS installer (for recovery purposes)
- Patience and caution
Step 1: Identify Motherboard and Update EFI:
- Determine your motherboard model as it's crucial for creating a stable EFI configuration.
- Update your EFI folder to the latest version compatible with Big Sur. Consult iATKOS Project forums or documentation for EFI updates.
Step 2: Use Proper USB Port Configuration:
- Identify USB ports on your motherboard labeled as USB2 and USB3.
- Connect USB2 devices (keyboard, mouse) to USB2 ports, and USB3 devices to USB3 ports.
- Ensure your USB2 devices work on USB3 ports and vice versa.
Step 3: Boot from macOS Installer USB:
- Create a bootable USB drive with the macOS installer (Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur).
- Boot from this USB drive and enter macOS recovery mode.
Step 4: Restore Working EFI:
- Access the terminal from macOS recovery.
- Replace the current EFI folder with the one that allows you to boot into the system safely.
Replace "YourEFIUSB" with the name of your EFI USB and "YourMacOSDisk" with the name of your macOS disk.bashcp -R /Volumes/YourEFIUSB/EFI /Volumes/YourMacOSDisk/
Step 5: Verify System Boot:
- Restart your system and check if it boots without errors.
- Confirm that USB2 and USB3 devices are recognized correctly.
Step 6: Update Kexts and Drivers:
- Use Hackintool or similar tools to update kexts and drivers in your EFI folder.
- Pay special attention to USB-related kexts like USBInjectAll and XHCI-Unsupported.
Step 7: Test USB Ports:
- Test all USB ports with various devices to ensure proper recognition.
- Confirm that USB3 ports recognize USB2 devices and vice versa.
Step 8: Monitor System Logs:
- In macOS, use the Console application to check system logs for any USB-related errors.
- Address any identified issues based on the log information.
Step 9: Community Support:
- Engage with the Hackintosh community for assistance.
- Share your experience and seek advice on forums or relevant platforms.
Step 10: Document Changes:
- Keep a record of changes made to your EFI folder and configurations.
- Document successful configurations for future reference.
Conclusion: Resolving USB3 port recognition issues requires careful EFI configuration and testing. By following these steps and seeking support from the iATKOS Project community, you can restore stable USB functionality on your Hackintosh. Remember to stay cautious and back up important data before making significant changes. Good luck with fixing your USB port issue!
Hi,
I bought a Hackintosh on eBay in 2021. It came with Mojave & was supposedly ready for any OS updates.
2 days ago I updated to Catalina without issues. Then yesterday I updated to Big Sur and all USB 3 ports now don't recognize USB 2 inputs.
So, I can put the mouse or keyboard in a USB 2 port and it works, but I can't put a mouse in a USB 3 port.
I followed a couple tutorials online, but none of them worked (they actually all gave me an error screen on startup). I have a bootable USB drive with which I somehow can enter back into the OS again to change back the EFI folder. Not sure why or how this works - this was supposedly just a USB stick to reinstall Mojave. Really weird.
Anyway, I do NOT have a windows partition, so I cannot use USBToolBox.
So far I tried using Hackintool, OCAT and OpenCore Configurator do get it to work, but all efforts ended up making my macOS drive unbootable (with aforementioned error screen).
Also: I used hackintool with the often-mentioned method of plugging first a usb2-device into every port and then a usb3-device. When using usb2-devices on usb3 ports none of the ports would show up green... Which is weird.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated! I am unfortunately NOT a hackintosh builder myself and a lot of this stuff is very new and confusing to me and I'm very concerned that I might f*** up my system completely with any further careless fiddling.

So far I haven't been able to identify the motherboard... working on it...
