The error you're encountering while trying to create a macOS installer indicates a problem during the process of copying the base system for the installer. This could be due to several reasons such as the source for the installer being corrupted, issues with the USB drive, or compatibility problems with the patcher tool you are using.

Here are the steps to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Verify macOS Image:

    • Ensure the macOS Sonoma image you're using is not corrupted. Redownload the image if necessary, preferably from a reliable source.
  2. Check USB Drive:

    • Make sure the USB drive is in good working condition and has enough capacity (at least 16GB or more recommended).
    • Format the USB drive again to the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format using Disk Utility and try creating the installer once more.
  3. Use a Different Patcher:

    • If you're using a third-party patcher designed to enable older Macs to run newer macOS versions, ensure it's the latest version and known to be compatible with macOS Sonoma.
    • Try using a different patcher if the current one fails, as some may be more up to date or have different methods of handling the installation process.
  4. Update Patcher Application:

    • If you're using a patcher application, check for any updates to the software that might resolve your issue.
  5. Run First Aid on USB:

    • Open Disk Utility, select the USB drive, and run First Aid to check for any errors and repair them if possible.
  6. Try a Different Port:

    • Connect the USB drive to a different port on your MacBook Pro, preferably one that you know works well with other devices.
  7. Reset NVRAM:

    • Reset the Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory (NVRAM) on your MacBook Pro by restarting it and holding down Option + Command + P + R until you hear the startup chime twice.
  8. Create Installer on Another Mac:

    • If possible, try creating the bootable installer on a different Mac to rule out any issues with the current system.
  9. Review Patcher Logs:

    • Look for detailed logs from the patcher tool (if available) to get more insight into what might be causing the failure.
  10. Community Support:

    • Look for forums and communities specific to your patcher tool and see if others have encountered similar issues. They may have specific advice for your situation.
  11. Compatibility Consideration:

    • Keep in mind that a late 2011 MacBook Pro is not officially supported for macOS versions beyond High Sierra (10.13.6). Using unofficial tools to run newer macOS versions can lead to unexpected issues and is not guaranteed to work.

Please proceed with caution, especially when using third-party tools to modify your system to run unsupported software. Such modifications can lead to instability or data loss, and it's essential to have backups of your important data before attempting these changes.
