Guide:
Introduction: If your MacBook Pro 2012 is experiencing crashes on Ventura (Sonoma) with a userspace watchdog timeout error, follow this step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Requirements:
- macOS installation USB or recovery partition
- Basic knowledge of macOS and Hackintosh systems
Step 1: Understanding the Issue: The panic message indicates a userspace watchdog timeout, often caused by issues with external drivers or kernel extensions. We'll go through a series of steps to identify and resolve the problem.
Step 2: Boot into macOS Recovery:
- Insert your macOS installation USB or restart your MacBook Pro while holding down the Command (⌘) + R keys to boot into macOS Recovery.
- Alternatively, use Internet Recovery by holding down Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + R during startup.
Step 3: Check for External Drivers/Kexts:
- Navigate to Disk Utility and check the Ventura partition for any third-party kernel extensions or drivers that might be causing conflicts.
- Remove or disable these external drivers and kexts.
Step 4: Reinstall Ventura:
- Choose "Reinstall macOS" from the macOS Utilities menu.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the Ventura version.
- Ensure you have the latest compatible Ventura version for your MacBook Pro.
Step 5: Remove Legacy Patcher Files:
- Navigate to your EFI partition using a tool like Clover Configurator.
- Remove any drivers or kexts related to the Legacy Patcher or Ventura setup.
- Check and update your config.plist for compatibility.
Step 6: Check NVIDIA Drivers (if applicable):
- If you are using an NVIDIA GPU, ensure you have the latest compatible web drivers.
- Adjust NVIDIA GPU settings and configurations as needed.
Step 7: Verify System Stability:
- Reboot your MacBook Pro and check if the crashes persist.
- Monitor system stability and performance.
Step 8: Diagnostic Logs:
- Check diagnostic logs for any recurring errors.
- Open the Console application and review system logs for error messages related to the crash.
Step 9: Community Support:
- Visit relevant Hackintosh forums or communities to seek assistance.
- Share details about your MacBook Pro model, Ventura version, and the crash symptoms.
Conclusion: By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the crashing issue on your MacBook Pro 2012 running Ventura. If problems persist, seek guidance from the community for further assistance. Regularly check for updates and patches that may address compatibility issues with your hardware.
