Here is my setup:
- 2012 5,1 Mac Pro
- MacVidCards RX580 8GB
- Sonnet McFiverr PCIe card
- BCM943602CDP upgrade kit
Context:
In Sata Bay 1, I have an SSD that I flashed OCLP on. This is so the Mac Pro boots as fast as possible, since - if I understand correctly - that is where the Mac Pro checks first.
In Sata Bay 2 I have a native install of Mojave.
On the McFiver card, I have Monterey (without OCLP partition, since it's already present on Sata1 SSD)
Issue 1: BootPicker
I can't seem to get Mojave (native on a SATA SSD) and Monterey (via OCLP on an NVME SSD in the McFiverr card) to coexist.
If both are plugged in at the same time the mac just hangs on a white screen. I can't get into the bootpicker or boot into either OS.
If I understand correctly, I should be able to get the bootpicker from the "empty" drive where OCLP is installed, and be able to select if I want to boot Monterey through OCLP or simply boot Mojave.
. . .
Anyway, I suppose I realistically dont need an old OS directly available, but is me who's doing something that isn't supported in the first place, or is there something wrong?
Issue 2: Bluetooth
I installed a BCM943602CDP upgrade kit, and it's detected and works perfectly in High Sierra and Mojave. However, when I boot Monterey, bluetooth no longer works (WiFi still works fine).
Any ideas why there's an issue, and how to fix it?
Issue 3: Future
I'm waiting on a USB2.0 Hub to arrive, and I will then probably upgrade to Sonoma. I've read about the USB1 issues, but I'm not sure I fully understand:
- this is only an issue in the bootmenu/macOSinstallers, not general use, correct? So I need to use a USB2.0 hub and cables to install Sonoma, but afterwards it should work fine without a hub or over bluetooth, correct?
- What is the conflict with Usb3 controllers? Can I not use my Sonnet McFiverr card because it has USB3/type c ports? That part is confusing to me.
