Guide:
Introduction
If your Thinkpad E14 G4 with a Ryzen 5825U processor running macOS Ventura experiences a problem where the laptop screen won't turn on after long sleep, you're not alone. In this guide, we'll explore potential solutions to address this issue.
Troubleshooting Steps
Check Power Management Settings:
- Ensure that your laptop's power management settings are correctly configured, and none of them interfere with the display's sleep behavior.
- You mentioned adjusting pmset variables; make sure you've set them appropriately for your specific needs.
Test Different Sleep Durations:
- As you mentioned, shorter sleep durations work fine, while long sleeps cause issues. Experiment with different sleep durations to identify the threshold at which the problem occurs. This information can be useful for troubleshooting.
Reset NVRAM and SMC:
- Reset the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) and SMC (System Management Controller) on your laptop. These resets can often resolve hardware-related issues. To reset NVRAM, restart your Mac and hold down Option, Command, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup chime twice. To reset SMC, shut down your Mac and hold down Shift, Control, Option, and the power button for 10 seconds, then release them.
Update Graphics Drivers and Kexts:
- Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers and kexts installed for your Ryzen iGPU. Sometimes, outdated or incompatible drivers can cause display issues.
Disable HDMI Sleep:
- Check if macOS Ventura is attempting to put the HDMI output to sleep during long sleep durations. You can try disabling HDMI sleep in your power management settings or using Terminal commands if needed.
Review Console Logs:
- Use the Console application to review system logs and identify any error messages or events related to the display issue. This may provide clues about what's causing the problem.
Explore Workarounds:
- Consider workarounds like setting your laptop to never go to sleep when the lid is closed or using a utility like Amphetamine to keep your Mac awake during longer periods of inactivity.
Conclusion
Troubleshooting display issues after long sleep on macOS Ventura can be challenging, but by following these steps and experimenting with different settings, you may be able to identify and resolve the problem. If the issue persists, consider seeking assistance from the Hackintosh community or forums, as they may have encountered similar problems and found solutions specific to your hardware and macOS version.
Remember to back up your data and configurations before making significant changes to your system, and always follow legal and ethical guidelines when using macOS on non-Apple hardware.
Thinkpad E14 G4 with Ryzen 5825U. This is the last thing I need to figure out. I tried pressing ESC after long sleep, which when I manually lock the system will toggle the display on and off. No luck after long sleep. Any creative solutions?
If it matters, I'm running Ventura. Latest OpenCore. Using the Ryzen's iGPU set to 4gb.
I already adjusted all of the pmset variables.
If I close the lid for an hour or less, it wakes up fine, and it's really in sleep mode, because the battery doesn't deplete.
I also tried plugging in HDMI when trying to get the screen to turn on after long sleep. Nothing happens, even if I know I'm logged in.
HDMI output works fine under normal circumstances.
