Fixing [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START] Issue on Ivy Bridge-E Hackintosh

Guide:

If you're encountering the [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START] error while trying to install macOS on your Ivy Bridge-E system, it can be frustrating, but there are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue. Here's a guide to help you get past this error:

  1. Check UEFI/BIOS Settings:

    • Start by verifying your UEFI/BIOS settings. Since you mentioned you can't disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module), ensure that your settings are configured correctly for macOS installation.
    • Confirm that "Secure Boot" is disabled, and set the "Boot Mode" to UEFI (if available). Check for any other settings related to UEFI compatibility.
  2. MMIO Regions:

    • You mentioned having four MMIO regions. Ensure that they are not overlapping and are properly allocated in your UEFI settings. Overlapping MMIO regions can cause issues during macOS installation.
    • You may need to consult your motherboard's manual or contact the manufacturer's support for guidance on configuring MMIO regions correctly.
  3. CFG Lock:

    • If you cannot disable CFG Lock in your UEFI settings, it can be a challenge. Some motherboards have hardware locks that prevent this feature from being disabled.
    • You can try searching online for your specific motherboard model to see if there are any custom UEFI/BIOS patches or modified firmware available that may allow you to disable CFG Lock. Be cautious when using unofficial firmware updates.
  4. UEFI Video OpROM:

    • The issue you described with the UEFI video driver could indeed be a factor. Try different settings related to the Video OpROM, even though it's causing issues accessing UEFI settings. Experiment with different configurations to see if any of them allow macOS to boot.
  5. Boot Flags:

    • While booting into macOS, try adding specific boot flags to your bootloader. Some common boot flags used for troubleshooting include -v (verbose mode), -x (safe mode), and -f (force cache rebuild).
    • The verbose mode (-v) can provide more detailed information about where the boot process is failing, which can help diagnose the issue.
  6. Kernel Patches:

    • Consider using custom kernel patches, such as those found in the OpenCore or Clover configuration, to address hardware-specific issues. These patches can sometimes help with compatibility on non-standard hardware.
  7. macOS Version:

    • You mentioned trying both Mojave and Big Sur. It's worth experimenting with different macOS versions to see if one of them works better with your hardware.
  8. Community Support:

    • Seek help from the Hackintosh community forums, such as tonymacx86, InsanelyMac, or Reddit's Hackintosh subreddit. Other users with similar hardware may have encountered and resolved the same issue.

Remember that Hackintosh installations can be complex and may require some trial and error. Be patient and methodical in your troubleshooting efforts, and make sure to back up your data before making significant changes to your system.

Ivy Bridge-E Stuck on [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START]

Hi, I am trying to install macOS (either Mojave or Big Sur) on an Ivy Bridge-E system and I cannot get past [EB|#LOG:EXITBS:START]/End RandomSeed despite which version I use

I have CSM enabled with no way to disable it, my UEFI requires the Video OpROM to be set to UEFI first/only to disable CSM, and setting it to either of those bricks me out of the UEFI settings and boot menu, requiring me to clear CMOS. I think this may be the root of my issues as I think macOS is trying to hand off to the UEFI video driver, which isn't running because it's set to legacy? Is this along the correct line of thinking?

Regarding the troubleshooting guide:

DevirtualiseMmio: I have 4 MMIO regions, how would I go about verifying they are good/configuring it correctly?

SetupVirtualMap: Set to true with (X79) C600 series chipset

EnableWriteUnprotector: Configured correctly, MAT is not supported

AppleXcpmCfgLock, AppleCpuPmCfgLock and AppleXcpmExtraMsrs: I believe I've tried all combinations, I cannot disable CFG Lock in the UEFI and there is no UEFI update to download and inspect, verify which is the correct configuration for my hardware?

AvoidRuntimeDefrag: Does not appear to be the issue, given the error is also present under Mojave

ProvideConsoleGop: Set to true, but does CSM as noted cause an issue?

IgnoreInvalidFlexRatio: Configured correctly
