The document doesn't contain specific information on the "Found previous image, aborting" error during OpenCore setup. However, based on general knowledge of OpenCore and Hackintosh installations, here's a guide that might help you troubleshoot the issue:
GUIDE STEP BY STEP:
1. Check OpenCore Version:
- Ensure you're using the latest stable version of OpenCore for Big Sur.
2. Verify SSDT and Kexts:
- Confirm that you have the necessary SSDT files and kexts for your hardware, especially those that support SATA and NVMe drives.
3. Inspect EFI Structure:
- Check your EFI folder structure on the USB drive. It should follow the standard OpenCore directory layout.
4. Reset NVRAM:
- Boot using the OpenCore USB and go to the OpenCore menu.
- Choose the option to reset NVRAM. This can clear out old boot states that might be causing the error.
5. Check Your config.plist:
- Use a plist editor to carefully review your
config.plist
settings. Ensure no erroneous entries could cause OpenCore to halt.
6. Clear Boot Entries:
- In your BIOS, clear any extraneous boot entries that may be causing conflicts with OpenCore.
7. BIOS Settings:
- Ensure your BIOS is set up correctly, with settings such as AHCI for SATA, VT-d disabled (if not using it), and other settings as recommended by OpenCore documentation for your hardware.
8. Format the USB and SSD:
- Reformat the USB drive and the SSD with the correct partition scheme (GUID Partition Table) and file system (FAT32 for USB, APFS for SSD).
9. Create USB Installer Again:
- Recreate the macOS Big Sur installer on your USB drive.
10. Swap to a Different USB Port:
- Sometimes USB 3.0 ports can cause issues. Try using a USB 2.0 port if available.
11. Rebuild EFI Folder:
- If all else fails, rebuild your EFI folder from scratch using the Dortania OpenCore Install Guide, ensuring all files are in the correct place.
Additional Tips:
- Ensure that the boot mode is set to UEFI, not Legacy or CSM.
- If you've switched from a different boot loader, make sure it's completely removed from your system.
- If you have access to macOS from another machine, use the ProperTree app to open and clean your
config.plist
file. - Consult the OpenCore Troubleshooting guide for more detailed steps related to your error message.
When plugging my EFI usb drive (32gb, FAT32) and booting from it, the screen fills with a lot of debug info but ultimately stalls to a complete halt at "Found previous image, aborting" immediately after reaching "Starting OpenCore..."
After researching other people's first time boot up's, it seems that they all have a boot menu that appears prior to this. I have no such boot menu appear.
I did, however, have this boot menu appear when I was using my original HDD with windows installed on it. When I swapped this drive for my clean unpartitioned Sata SSD, it began skipping this step and immediately starting OpenCore. Its possible that it skips this boot menu as a result of a lack of any other boot drive, which would be logical.
Mid writing this post, I tested this theory by swapping out the SSD for my original bootable HDD. It actually lead to the boot screen, and allowed me to select the OS installation, but failed to make any actual progress. When I put the new SSD back in, again, it would load into opencore, and then appear to skip the boot menu and immediately attempt to load BACK into opencore within opencore. Haven't even gotten to the mac installer yet beyond that one fluke with the HDD. Even if this is an issue with the software's ability to interact with the SSD, it is odd that the mac recovery installer is essentially only appearing when I have the HDD plugged in.
Here is a link to the log that was generated.
Here is a direct link to my config.plist
Here is a link to my entire flash drive's files, in case I messed something up within the structure or within the config's setup in relation to the files.
From what I can tell, it appears that OpenCore attempts to boot within OpenCore, but reports "Found previous image, aborting" and subsequent "Already Started" messages.
Computer Specs:
I'm installing this computer to an HP Notebook-15-ay100 CTO.
- Intel Core i7-7500U (Kaby Lake Microarchitecture)
- Intel HD Graphics 620
- No Dedicated Graphics Card
- A clean, untouched freshly installed CS900 SATA SSD
- Using OpenCore 0.9.7 and installing Big Sur using the mac os recovery method, generating the USB stick from a windows computer.
I'm very new to creating a hackintosh computer, but I followed the steps as thoroughly as I could on the Dortania OpenCore Install Guide.
