I initially began the installation setup with Big Sur, following a successful setup. Then, I made modifications to the EFI and updated to Monterey, and eventually to Ventura, with the possibility of Sonoma (not tried yet). It's worth noting that I did not perform direct macOS updates through Settings/Update. Instead, I created a full installer on a USB drive and conducted a fresh installation each time. Direct updating can potentially result in boot issues.
Specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 5600H
- GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics (iGPU working using NootedRed) and NVIDIA RTX 1650 Mobile (Disabled)
- RAM: 24GB RAM DDR4 3200 Hz
- Storage: Hynix Nvme ssd (Not Compatible as mentioned in OpenCore Guide) + Crucial Sata Ssd 256GB (Mac OS Installed here)
- Laptop Model: HP Pavilion Gaming 15 ec2150ax
- Audio Codec: Realtek ALC295
- Ethernet Card: Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet
- Wifi/BT Card: Wifi Not Working
- Touchpad: Synaptic using VoodooRMI (Got it working on OC Boot menu, but not inside OS)
- Opencore: Initially from 7.x to 0.9.7, I don't remember what version I used in which MacOS version
Working:
- Ryen Vega iGPU using NootedRed
- Brightness control using BrightnessControl.kext (F2-F3 keys)
- Keyboard
- Internal Speaker and Other Audio: ALC295 (layout-id =13)
- Ethernet using Realtek RTL8111.kext
- Usb Thetering using HoRNDIS.kext
- USB ports are working (2 USB and 1 C type port, I think only upto USB 3.0 speed)
- Battery status: use ECEnabler.kext
- Shutdown / Reboot
- Windows 10 dualboot (But somehow my Nvidia 1650 GPU stopped working in Windows 10)
Not working:
- HDMI : As it is wired directly to Nvidia GPU, So not possible, yet ;)
- Nvme: Hynix OEM Ssd not working, But some WD are possible as mentioned in SSD Buying guide on OpenCore
- Bluetooth
Some Important Points might helpful:
- Important for NootedRed.kext and Black Screen: It might applies to other hardware. If your Efi boots successfully and you get a Black Screen, Its a issue related to NootedRed.kext. You have to Disable the kext in Kernel section and again Enable it after your Installation is done.
- Patch: Add proper Hex values for Replace Core points in algrey - Force cpuid_cores_per_packagepatches under Kernel -> Patch in your config. My processor is 6 core so : B8 06 0000 0000.More info on website on Dortania Ryzen Patch section
- SMBIOS : I have tired MacPro SMBIOS in BigSur and when updated to Monterey and Ventura I shifted to Macbook 16.3 SMBIOS and I worked fine. Maybe this doesn't effect on Installation setup unless that Hardware deprication conflicts with MacOS releases like its completely abandoned. So its should works as long as your EFI is compatible.
Note: This current Funtionality Working Status is for My Latest EFI in Ventura, and for previous MacOS might not be correct as This EFI is gradually updated to reach this point.
User Experience :
- Usage : Overall OS is working really smooth and All animations and transparency effects are also good
- Browser : Safari browser is working fine but Brave and Chrome browser need around 20 secs to open (and OS will freeze at that point) but after opening , It was working fine and Youtube on Browser is working fine
- Video Players : VLC media player didn't work , It completely freeze and showing Red and Green colors only
- Android Studio Hedgehog : I have installed and create a demo project , It was building fine and fast. Didn't try the emulator (It might give error).
- VsCode: It takes 10-15 seconds to open like Brave Browser, But after opening it worked just fine. I tried editing config.plist files on it.
