I am thinking of upgrading the cpu in my laptop from i5-2450M (Dual Core) to i7-2820QM (Quad core). I am currently using a MacBookPro8,1 SMBIOS.
If I were to install 2820QM, would I need to change the SMBIOS to MacBookPro8,2?
Arguments for yes:
MacBookPro8,2 came with this exact processor
OpenCore guide recommends this SMBIOS for this configuration: https://caizhiyuan.gitee.io/opencore-install-guide/config-laptop.plist/sandy-bridge.html#platforminfo
Arguments for no:
I really like my current serial; it has three Fs in sequence! Oh and I've had to go through iMessage issues due to serial swapping in the past and even had to call Apple to resolve this issue (which worked, but was still a hassle)
Generating PM SSDT should in theory tell macOS what it's dealing with and it should just shrug it off with "Unsupported CPU" as if I have a prototype mac
dosdude can swap CPUs left and right and his Frankenstein macs keep booting
What do you think?
