If you're stuck on the boot screen when updating read this...

I've seen lots of people making the same post and lots saying they can't get in to recovery etc. I was in the same boat so if you are too, try this... You'll need another computer or - I'm guessing - your original OpenCore install USB.

  1. Download OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.1.0
  2. Create a macOS installed - you can use whatever macOS you were on before. I was on Sonoma and created an installer for Sonoma too.
  3. Build and install OpenCore on the drive making sure you choose the correct model for your Mac
  4. Reboot your Mac with the USB in and hold Esc / Option whatever gets you to the boot device screen.
  5. Choose the USB and then choose to install MacOS following the process as normal.

Hopefully your Mac will now boot back in. If you've got no Wifi or things are running badly (from experience) you've probably chosen the wrong model when building OpenCore (I built OpenCore on my Macbook without changing the model and booted with display issues and no Wifi).

Some of the technicalities or phrasing in this post is probably wrong, but hopefully it helps some of you.
