Update help

I'm trying to update a new 2012 MacBook pro 15 with the quad core i7, 8gb or ram and an SSD to either Ventura or Sonoma. I've used legacy patcher a few times before with no issues but I cannot get it to work. The first problem I ran into was the laptop is on mountain lion. Apparently legacy patcher doesn't work on supported models unless they are already somewhat updated. I made a bootable USB off of another Mac running on Catalina and it installed, but went to a black screen and started reading the voice navigation settings. I have no idea what to do and there is absolutely no information anywhere on the GitHub about this
