I'm trying to update to Sonoma on a 2012 MacBook Pro, and I keep getting stuck because it says that an internet connection is required. When I try internet recovery mode, I get an error message. If I restart the computer, I can't actually use it because after a very lengthy startup process, I get a message that "the version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled. Use Recovery to reinstall macOS or select another startup disk." I can't use Recovery, and if I choose the other option, Macintosh HS macOS 14.1.2 (which is... Sonoma?), I get sent right back into the lengthy startup process again.
At this point I am so frustrated that I just want to go to Ventura, but I don't seem to be able to do that.
