I have a Mac Pro 5,1 (flashed from 4,1) that was running Ventura pretty smoothly on an RX 580 prior to running the 0.6.8 post-installation patches. Said patches, which are supposed to be specifically for that generation of GPUs, completely bricked my system. For some reason after root patching the SSD containing the operating system could no longer be seen or booted when connected through SATA.
After a few days of banging my head against the wall I got Ventura up and running with a full wipe of the SSD.
So my question is this: What’s the downside of continuing to run the system without the post-installation patches? The latest OCLP guide lists the RX 5xx series as “GPUs requiring patching in macOS Ventura” due to their lack of AVX2 support, but my setup seems okay. Can I keep running it without the root patches?
