Optical out

Rig

Cpu: Intel pentium i9-10900K Ram: 64gb crucial ballistix 3200mhz Gpu: Pulse Radeon rx580 8gb Board: Z490 aorus pro ax Osx: Monterey

So my rig is largely for sound production, for which it works a treat, my main audio out is a scarlett 4i4o. Though, hdmi audio, and most other usb audio devices work, such as the line to my 2 channel amp. However, I am endeavouring on a sound design masters this year, and would like to set up a 5.1 system. I don't particularly want to buy another interface. Though I may have to. I have a 5.1 optical or coax in, which the decodes and splits the signals. Mostly, I got this for my PlayStation / home cinema. I could invest in 1 more monitor (center speaker) and have a good system on the go. Albeit in a non sound treated room. But it would allow me to do the bulk of the work at home. Until I got into a studio to finish the finer details.

Issue I have is. No reading in mac os regarding the existence of this port. I used dortania for the EFI build. I had to troubleshoot for 2 weeks to gain a stable os, big sur initially was my first os. Infairness, it seemed to have more functionality, I.e screen brightness adjustment. But I can live without that. I can't even remember what I did to make my hack stable. In a daze of 13 hours troubleshooting. I did something and then made 2000 copies of that efi and emailed them to me, my dad, probably your family, and santa.

So, the background is laid out. Can I get the optical out to run?

I also don't have usb3, which I would like, as the scarlett is a usb 3 audio interface, and ultimate performance is what I desire. I used a system reader to build my usb kext or acpi. Can't remember which it falls under. May even be both. The reader was from orillia which I know isn't covered here, but there were some handy tools in there like the OC configuration software. It's my first build, so I'm a noob to this.

So breakdown is...

  1. Get optical out to work, link to guide if possible?
  2. Build usb ports to activate usb3, there is also a little usbc port I'd like to use
  3. My board has no Bluetooth, however I have ripped apart my 2008 imac and taken the broadcom card, purchased an adapter to throw it in and run as a pcie. As it is apple native I have been informed it will run fine. So people say. However my os may be more advanced than the tech, I.e inbuilt support for the card may no longer be coded into Monterey, has anyone else done anything similar? Did it work.

Any assistance given will be much appreciated.

All the best.

For the Hac!
