USB Tethering using my old Android phone
I had this saved for when the subreddit went public again (as you can see by the date of the screenshots), but never got around to share it.
Information:
- Model: HP 245 G8
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500U
- iGPU: AMD Radeon Vega 7 Graphics (2 GB VRAM, can be lowered down to 1 GB. 512 MB results on apps such as Discord not launching)
- RAM: 8 GB DDR4 @ 3200 MHz
- Hard Drive: ST1000LM035-1RK172 (the OS is really slow but I'll be getting a SSD soon)
- Display: 1366x768 @ 60Hz
- Ethernet: Realtek RTL88111
- Wi-Fi/Bluetooth: Realtek RTL8822CE
- Camera: HP TrueVision HD
What works:
- CPU power management using this kext. Battery life is not great, but I haven't checked what can be done to improve it yet.
- USB tethering from an Android phone as a workaround for having Wi-Fi since iOS only allows to do USB tethering with mobile data. If you need it as well, check this kext out.
- Hardware acceleration thanks to NootedRed.
- iServices.
- Built-in speakers.
- All USB ports.
- HDMI video.
- Ethernet.
- Keyboard.
- Trackpad.
What doesn't work:
- Built-in microphone - here's the thing though: it's beyond garbage. I'm not even wasting a second of my time on it (and even if I did, there's no way of getting it to work at the moment afaik).
- FaceTime, crashes on startup. Not too much of an issue either.
- Sleep (in some rare cases it does but I never got around to checking out why).
- HDMI audio.
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
