Troubleshooting Install Freeze on ASUS ROG STRIX G513IH Hackintosh
Skill Level: Intermediate
Encountering a freeze during macOS installation on an ASUS ROG STRIX G513IH can be frustrating. This guide provides steps to resolve the issue and continue the installation process.
- Verify BIOS Settings: Ensure that the BIOS is configured correctly for Hackintosh, with the SATA operation mode set to AHCI and secure boot disabled.
- Check NVMe Configuration: Some NVMe SSDs may need specific drivers or patches. Make sure you have the necessary kexts like NVMeFix (if available for your macOS version) in your EFI folder.
- Test with a Single SSD: If you have two NVMe drives installed, try the installation process with only one drive connected to isolate the issue.
- Use Verbose Mode: Boot the installer in verbose mode to identify at which point the system freezes. This can provide clues about the underlying problem.
- Update EFI Drivers: Make sure that your OpenCore or Clover EFI drivers are up to date, especially those handling USB and SSD interfaces.
- Check USB Configuration: If you're using USB peripherals, ensure that the USB ports are properly mapped and configured in your EFI.
- Recreate Installation Media: A corrupted installer can cause freezes. Re-download macOS and create a new bootable USB installer.
- Reset NVRAM: Sometimes, clearing NVRAM can resolve installation issues. Do this from the OpenCore boot picker if available.
These troubleshooting steps are a starting point. If issues persist, consulting Hackintosh forums with details of where the installation freezes can be helpful.
