I’ve been running a Windows 10/macOS (currently Monterey) dual boot with OpenCore on my Ryzen desktop for the last two years. Earlier this month Windows crapped out on me for some reason, no repair options functional. I figured I can just reinstall Windows on the drive, all my important files are backed up so all I lose is some time. Problem is, I don’t have access to any other Windows machine and making an installer USB on macOS is proving to be a bitch and a half.
Progress so far:
- Windows media creation tool isn’t avaliable on macOS.
- Boot Camp Assistant no longer supports writing to external drives.
- When copying the .iso onto the drive through the terminal BIOS won’t recognize it as a bootable drive.
- I’ve also tried a few dedicated ISO burner programs for macOS, but to no avail. One even warned me that creating a bootable Windows USB is problematic on non-Windows systems.
Anyone have tips on what I could try next? I’ve read the dual boot section on Dortania, are there any other gotchas or important details when installing Windows with a working OC/MacOS installation running?
