How to make a troubleshooting USB post install?

I'm trying to implement a possible fix to my nvme ssd by adding the nvmefix.kext and updating the config.plist. Original thread.

I'm very nervous about trying not to mess it up, so wanted to try it first with a USB version so that I know it works.

Do I just format any USB and copy the Macintosh / Boot / EFI folder onto the USB with the updated config.plist?

P.s when I'm doing a clean snapshot of my .plist with the updated kext, it's asking me whether I'd like to snapshot for 0.5.6 -> 0.6.0 instead? Do I click yes?
