Hi all.
I'm sick of daily driving my 13-inch MacBook Pro. I love the OS and the materials quality, but I hate the butterfly keyboard and the fact that it sounds like a plane taking off when I do something as mundane as a video call. I could get an M1 Mac Mini, but with import taxes it ends up costing me about $US1050 in Mexico for a 16 GB model with the student discount. I figure I can save a bit of money by building a Hackintosh and enjoy the satisfaction of doing it myself. I want to do a mini-ITX build because I don't like big chonking computers and onboard graphics are fine for my use case.
I've identified the following parts list:
- Intel Core i5-10400F
- Noctua NH-L9i 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
- Crucial P2 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD
- Cooler Master MasterBox Case
- Corsair SF 450 Power Supply
Will this setup work?
I'm just not sure about the motherboard and wi-fi. An iPad is a key part of my workflow, so things like AirDrop, Handoff, Universal Clipboard and iCloud are non-negotiable for me. Going mini-ITX reduces my motherboard options somewhat, and I would like at least one USB-C port if at all possible.
I built this list on PC Part Picker and just included any motherboard because I really don't know what the best option is for my use case and budget (would like to keep it under $800 if possible).
