Hadron Hackintosh - A SFFPC project with AIO that triple boots macOS/Linux/Win10

Almost a year ago, I was gifted some money. More money than I ever had before. It was not a lot, but it was enough that I could spend $1800 on my dream machine.

My goals:

  • Small form factor/Portability for travel
  • Triple boot OSes
  • Future-proofed specs
  • Decent enough GPU to game, but still work on recent macOS

I worked, studied, and researched for at least 3 months to find the parts, verify compatibility, check pricing, order them, and stack them up as they arrived - until I could finally build it. (This was before the Pandemic, when parts weren't so hard to come by).

I had it built in less than a day, but had 2 unexpected issues. Issue #1 was the 120mm fans that came with the AIO were too big, so I substituted them with the 2 super-thin Scythe's listed below. Issue #2, I had to replace the fan in the PSU with one from Noctua. The one it came with sounded like a revving jet engine. An item I knew would be an issue was Wifi/BT card. The board came with an incompatible card, so I bought a BCM94360NG.

This is my "forever" PC. I will likely not have the money to spend on something like this again in the near future. I wanted something that would last at least 5 years. So far, after year one, it's not slowed down or show signs of aging AT ALL.

What I use it for:

  • Gaming (Minecraft, CS:GO, Cyberpunk)
  • Audio/Video production (Final Cut Pro, Garageband, Audacity)
  • Streaming (OBS)
  • Media consumption (Spotify, Netflix, DisneyPlus, Amazon, YouTube, etc)
  • Alarm Clocks
  • Communication (Discord, Google Voice)

NOTE: I am using Mojave because I have a ton of games and apps that are 32bit and I still use. So, I need the compatibility that Big Sur and Catalina do not offer. (and no, I do not want to run a Mojave VM in Big Sur/Catalina because it defeats the purpose of having DIRECT ACCESS to the hardware I spent a lot of time/money putting together). Mojave works great.

and now...
