Ever since Snow Leopard up until Catalina, I've moved my /Users directory to an external drive and used fstab to auto mount.
I had just (painfully) updated to Big Sur and I'm having trouble doing this. I got fstab set up, I reboot into Recovery and delete the new /Users directory, reboot, login, then it's just stuck in a spinning wheel.
I tried not deleting the new /Users and it would log in successfully, but my external drive will be mounted in /Volumes/Users
I believe iiuc the root directory is no longer writable in Big Sur. Is the problem here because it can't mount to /Users on the root directory anymore? Any workarounds?
