Big Sur 11.2.3 on OpenCore 0.6.8 - 9900k/z390/vega64

Hello,

I have finally updated from OpenCore 0.5.7/Catalina, which I used for 1.5 years, to OpenCore 0.6.8/BigSur, and it was a pretty smooth process. TL;DR: everything except Apple TV DRM works, and Dortania guides are amazing, and very easy to follow!

Here is what I did, more or less:

  1. I first updated from OpenCore 0.5.7 to 0.6.7 (about a month ago), by following Dortania guide to the letter, and essentially recreating my config.plist from scratch. It was pretty straightforward since I already knew my components (and I carefully selected them 1.5 years ago to be compatible).
  2. In the process, I finally did a proper USB mapping, which I didn't bother doing before (and in the process, I fixed various USB bugs that bothered me all that time, like devices not recognized). On my motherboard, I had too many ports, so a few became USB3 only.
  3. I also did the DRM fix, and as a result, I've got Apple TV+ working in the app, and Netflix/Prime working in Brave Browser, but not in Safari.
  4. After that, I installed Windows 10 on a separate HDD, and everything works great with multi-booting, although I haven't yet managed to set up a nice boot UI - it's text-based for now.
  5. Today, I manually updated OpenCore from 0.6.7 to 0.6.8 (need to add a couple of entries in config.plist, no big deal), and then updating to Big Sur via the standard update process.

What works:

  • iServices (Cloud Drive, Messages, App Store, Apple Music, etc.)
  • Bluetooth, e.g., Airpods recognition when nearby (and "Hey Siri" works with my Airpods 2!)
  • TimeMachine backups to my NAS
  • AirDrop both ways (to and from)
  • Watching Netflix and Amazon Prime in Brave Browser
  • Let me know what else to check

What doesn't work:

  • Apple TV+ shows (but that was expected)

What bothers me:

  • My Dell 3419w has a pinkish tint for a few seconds after sleep, then goes back to normal. That problem persisted for a long time, so it's not Big Sur specific.

My configuration:

  • CPU - Intel i9-9900K (16) @ 3.60GHz
  • Motherboard - Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite
  • GPU - AMD SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB
  • Memory - Corsair LPX 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz C16 DDR4 DRAM Memory Kit
  • SSD - WD Black 1TB High-Performance NVMe PCIe Internal SSD - M.2 2280, 8 Gb/s - WDS100T2X0C
  • Wifi/Bluetooth - fenvi T919 BCM94360CD

There are a few more things I want to setup:

  • Proper boot UI GUI
  • File Vault support
  • I need to check that Sleep works properly (but it never bothered me, really)
