Back to hackintoshing after 3+ years (Big Sur 11.2.3, OpenCore 0.6.7)

I got a new PC at work and since I've been using macOS for the past 6-7 years on a Macbook I completely feel out of the loop on how to use Windows efficiently.

Specs

  • Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B450M-K
  • CPU: Intel i3 10100F
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 710
  • Audio Codec: ALC887
  • Ethernet Card: Realtek RTL8111
  • Wifi/BT Card: BCM94360CD with an adapter

I remembered having a stable hackintosh back in the day and decided I would try my luck in hackintoshing this PC.

This build has been running for the past month. I first got Catalina up and running, but later went for an update to Big Sur without any major issues.

I tested a bunch of things and I think everything is working, even sleep.

The issues I encountered during the setup process were:

  • Install - kept failing, couldn't figure out why. I then noticed I have an unsupported NVMe drive so I added a cheap 120GB SSD just for macOS purposes

  • Ethernet - fixed by changing enableEEE to No in RealtekRTL8111.kext

  • WiFi - fixed by using AirportBrcmFixup.kext in Catalina. This broke in Big Sur, but I added a IO80211Catalina.kext along with AirportBrcmFixup.kext

  • Audio - even though ASUS' website states the codec being ALC887 I used alcid=66 for ALC897 which fixed the issue with audio

  • USB - used USBMap to map out my ports

  • iServices - took ages to figure out, even chatted with Apple to see if I'm blacklisted. Ended up being Keychain.. Deleted everything under 'login' and everything works now
