Steps I took before updating:
- Backed everything up using Carbon Cloner
- Copied my current EFI into the CC backup that I made. Should anything go wrong I can revert back. Highly advised making a back up before taking the leap no matter how large or small the macOS update.
- Tested the bootable backup USB works by booting from it.
- I updated my OpenCore from 0.6.2 to 0.6.3 using OC-tool. Super fast and easy tool that will update most of your kexts, compares your config to the new config, and generates a new EFI.
- Those with AMD’s make sure to update to the latest patches.plist and add it to your config.plist. You’ll see huge improvements to your GPU performance and is needed for Big Sur.
- Using the Apple update download Big Sur
- Run the installation
- It will reboot a few times, make sure that when it does reboot select “Mac Installer” during the picker screen.
- Took about 29min~ to install.
- It should boot and just works.
- I tested sleep and it works now without any modifications.
- I did notice that I’m getting the Max supported memory alert even with the MacProMemoryNotificationDisabler kext.
